AI for auto repair shops — built for the service drive

You run the shop. We run the AI.

The part of the job that isn't turning wrenches — explaining the estimate, translating the codes, writing the reminder, asking for the review — comes back already written. You read it, fix what you want, and send it from your own phone. It never messages a customer on its own.

Before & After

Three problems shops deal with every day

In each case GearShift does the writing. A person at your shop still does the sending.

Before GearShift

"Customers don't trust the estimate. They go home to research it."

After GearShift

Every line item comes back explained in plain language — what it is, why it failed, what happens if it waits. You hand them something they can actually read instead of a parts list.

Before GearShift

"Techs spend 20 minutes writing up what 'check engine light' means."

After GearShift

Type the DTC codes in, get the write-up back before the tech leaves the bay. Enter several at once and it tells you the likely common cause instead of three separate problems.

Before GearShift

"I always mean to ask for the review and I never do."

After GearShift

The ask is written the moment you close the job, with the actual repair in it. You paste your Google or Yelp link and send. It goes when you send it — never on its own.

Everything you need

Eight jobs off the service writer's desk.

Built specifically for auto repair shops — not adapted from generic business software.

🧾
You stop explaining the same estimate five times a day
Paste in parts and labor, get back a paragraph the customer can read — what it is, why it failed, what happens if it waits. Copy it into your text or email.
Your tech stops writing up what P0420 means
Type the codes in. The plain-language write-up and the repair-order note come back before the tech is out of the bay. Several codes at once, and it tells you the likely single cause.
🔔
You stop meaning to text last quarter's customers
The come-back-in text and email are written in your shop's wording. Copy, add your booking link, send from your own phone. GearShift does not send them for you.
You stop forgetting to ask at pickup
The ask is written with the actual repair in it while the car is still on the lot. Paste your Google or Yelp link and send it. You send it — nothing goes out automatically.
You stop asking "whose car is that?"
Every vehicle on one board — dropped off, waiting on parts, waiting on approval, ready. Anyone at the counter can answer the phone without walking to the bay.
Photos of the actual failed part
Your tech attaches photos to the repair order with a caption and their name. The customer sees the cracked boot on their own phone, next to the line item you want approved.
You stop hunting for where a job got to
One dashboard: every open repair order, what has been quoted, what the customer approved and what they declined. No spreadsheet, no whiteboard.
You stop chasing approval by voicemail
Send a link. They see each line item and tick approve or decline on their phone — you get a decision instead of a callback. They can message you there too. Payment links point at your own processor; GearShift never touches the money.

Straight answers, before you put a card in.

Where the answer is "not yet," we say that.

Does it answer my phone?
No. Not on any GearShift plan you can buy today. If you have seen a "+ bizbot" voice add-on mentioned on our pages, there is no checkout behind it — it is a conversation with us, not a button. Don't buy GearShift expecting a receptionist.
Does it text my customers on its own?
No. Reminders and review asks are written for you and copied to your clipboard — you paste them into your own text or email and send. That's a real limitation and it's also why nothing embarrassing ever goes out under your shop's name.
Do I have to drop Tekmetric or Shop-Ware?
No, and GearShift isn't a replacement — no inventory, no payroll, no accounting. Shops keep their DMS and use GearShift for the customer-facing side: the explanation, the approval, the photos, the follow-up.
What if the AI gets a repair wrong?
Assume it will, and check it. It has not seen the car — it turns your notes and your codes into customer language. Every output is labelled a draft and needs a qualified tech's eyes before it leaves the shop. You are the technician; it is a typist.
Do you take a cut of what I bill?
No. GearShift never touches your money. Payment links on the customer portal point at your own processor, so your merchant account and your rates stay exactly as they are.
Can I cancel?
Monthly only — there is no annual plan and no contract to get out of. Cancel from your account and access runs to the end of the month you've paid for. The free tier stays free after that.
Your first week

What actually happens after you sign up

Including the parts you have to do. There is no install and nothing to wire into your DMS.

Day 1 · ten minutes
Sign up on the phone in your pocket — it's a web app, there's nothing to download. Put in your shop name, your labour rate and your Google review link. That's the setup.
Day 1 · the first real test
Take a repair order you already wrote this week and run it through the estimate explainer. Read what comes back. If it doesn't sound like your shop, change the wording — that's the honest way to find out whether this is for you, and it costs nothing.
Day 2 · the first customer link
Build one estimate in GearShift, have your tech attach a photo of the failed part, and text the customer the link. They tick approve or decline on each line from their phone. You get a decision instead of a voicemail.
Rest of the week · the habit
Every car goes on the board. At pickup, hit the review ask, paste your link, send. Friday, pull last quarter's customers and send the come-back-in text. Twenty minutes of work that used to be nobody's job.
How we compare

Where GearShift sits next to the shop systems

GearShift is not a DMS — it does not do inventory, payroll or accounting. It does the writing and the customer-facing side. Competitor prices below are from their public pages and were not confirmed with the vendors; check them yourself before deciding.

Common questions

Answers before you ask

No. The free plan is free forever and never asks for one. A card is only needed when you start a paid plan, which begins with a 14-day trial.
Treat every output as a draft written by an assistant who has not seen the car. It is good at turning your notes and codes into customer language; it is not diagnosing anything. Every output carries a review-before-sending notice, and nothing reaches a customer unless one of your people sends it. Check it against your own repair order every time.
Yes. GearShift is monthly only — there is no annual plan and no contract. Cancel from your account and access runs to the end of the month you have paid for.
Yes — GearShift is mobile-first. The tools are designed to work from the service bay on any smartphone. No app download required.
